SUCCESSFUL HANDOVER OF SCHOOL STREET LANTERNS AND CCTV PROJECT

4th February 2025 – In celebration of their 10th Anniversary, the Friends of President’s College Association successfully completed and handed over the “Renewal of School Street Lanterns and CCTV Camera Setup” Phase 1 project to the school administration. The initiative was completed ahead of the President’s College Birthday on February 4th, 2025, fulfilling its goal to enhance school illumination and security.
The official handover ceremony took place on the President’s College Kotte premises, with key stakeholders in attendance. School leadership was represented by Principal Mrs. H.B.S Rupasinghe and Vice Principal Ms. Mithila Rathnayake, who accepted the completed project on behalf of the institution.
The Friends of President’s College Association was represented by committee members: Mr. Asanka Sanjeev Perera, Mr. Nimesh Liyanage, Mrs. Chamila Premasinghe, Mrs. Anushka Samaraweera, Mr. Shivantha Rajapakse.
This initiative stands as a testament to the dedication of the association and past pupils who came together to enhance campus safety and infrastructure. The project not only improves visibility throughout the school grounds but also strengthens security measures through the strategic installation of CCTV cameras.
The Phase 1 completion marks a significant milestone in the association’s ongoing commitment to supporting their alma mater and ensuring a safe learning environment for current and future students.
Necessity:
In recent times, there has been a need to reconstruct the inactive electric lanterns and CCTV cameras. Currently, 25 lanterns have already been installed.
Plan and Activation:
Initially, it was advised to install only 15 lanterns, but it was necessary to increase the number to 25. The estimated cost for 15 street lamps is LKR 68,825.00. The total cost for fixing all 25 lamps is LKR 102,860.00.
Resources and Funding:
- Friends of the President’s Association: LKR 85,285.00
- School Development Society: LKR 12,400.00
- Riyaz Amith personally funded the cost of the wire roll: LKR 5,175.00
Sustainability:
This project will be maintained continuously for up to five years. It will provide electricity at night for various activities such as training camps and enhance the school’s security service.
Conduction and Renewal:
The project is guaranteed until 1st February 2027. The school’s security service will handle the turning on and off of the lamps. If any breakdowns occur, complaints should be directed to the project officer through the deputy principal. It is important to be aware of the lanterns to protect the bulbs and switches.
